Career after 10+2 with PCM

Career after 10+2 with PCM

With Physics, Chemistry and Maths as the main subjects in 10+2, engineering is one of the main career options open. For engineering, one can prepare for entrance exams like AIEEE or the IIT-JEE to pursue a career in engineering.

If not successful in engineering, one can do a Bachelor's degree as BCA, B.Sc.(IT) or B.Sc.(CS) and follow it with a M.Sc.(IT) or MCA to enter into the IT sector.

A normal B.Sc. followed with M.Sc. and Ph.D can be a career in academics. One can also join the merchant navy by doing a course in marine engineering.

Apart from engineering, one can separately specialize in Physics, Chemistry or Maths i.e., according to the subject of his/her interest.

Today, Mathematics and Statistics are becoming popular subjects owing to their application in a wide field of study and research. A bachelor's degree in mathematics will prepare one for fascinating jobs in statistics, actuarial sciences, mathematical modeling, and cryptography; for teaching; as well as for graduate school leading to a research career in mathematics or statistics. A strong background in mathematics is also necessary for research in many areas of computer science, social science, and engineering.

A physics graduate basically do research work in various research and development establishments and government departments. Those who are having specializations in astrophysics, astronomy, geophysics, nuclear physics, meteorology can make career in respective fields. To facilitate both intensive and extensive study of physics, it has been divided into several branches.

Top 10 Engineering Colleges in India

1. Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur - www.iitk.ac.in

2. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi - www.iitd.ac.in

3. Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai - www.iitm.ac.in

4. Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai - www.iitb.ac.in

Few other options that are open for PCM students are as follows:

M.Sc. Electronic Media: One can also do M.Sc. Electronic Media after your graduation. This will be more interesting and useful for you. It is a newly emerging field where one can learn about 3D animation, etc.

If interested in Mathematics: One can do your post graduation in maths. There is a huge scope in Statistics after post graduation in stats.

If interested in Chemistry: After finishing graduation in Chemistry, one can choose Biochemistry/Biotechnology or Bioinformatics at post graduation level which will be very interesting and there are great opportunities in abroad.

If interested in Computers: One can go for MCA or M.Sc.(IT) after graduation.

If interested in Physics: One can join B.Sc. Physics and then go for post graduation not only in Physics, but also in fields such as Astrophysics, Geology and newly introduced course called Geoinformatics.

After pursuing anyone of the above course, one can also go for Ph.D. For this the student can appear for NET to build a career in the field of teaching and research. All the options that we have mentioned have bright career prospects especially in the area of teaching and research

Best B-School Survey 2010: Benchmarking guide

Best B-School Survey 2010: Benchmarking guide

The most definitive survey of Indian business schools is out.

best1

Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

The Business Standard Best Business Schools Survey 2010 shows that the country's top business schools are the Indian Institutes of Management in Ahmedabad and Kolkata, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in New Delhi, Institute of Management Technology at Ghaziabad, Management Development Institute at Gurgaon, National Institute of Industrial Engineering in Mumbai and Xavier Labour Relation Institute at Jamshedpur.

best2

Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata

There are several business school surveys done every year. But these are all perception surveys and are limited to the top schools. So they touch upon a small part of the universe. This also runs the danger of excluding the actual information about the business schools. Such perception-based surveys have another risk - they assume that respondents (aspirants, students and executives from companies) are well-informed about all the institutes. This might not always be true.

best3

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi

The Business Standard survey, in contrast, is not based on perceptions but on rigorous analysis of everything that goes into making a business school. All business schools are rated on five parameters: Intellectual capital, admissions & placements, infrastructure, industry interface and governance. Each of these can be measured objectively. There is hence no scope for subjectivity or any bias. Of course, each of the five parameters has a different weight which is decided by an expert committee. The survey does not rank the institutes but puts them in seven hierarchical categories: Super League, A1, A2, A3, A4, B1 and B2.

best4

Management Development Institute, Gurgaon

The Super League:

Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi

Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad

Management Development Institute, Gurgaon

National Institute of Industrial Engineering, Mumbai

Xavier Labour Relation Institute at Jamshedpur

best5

National Institute of Industrial Engineering, Mumbai

There are close to 2,000 business schools in India, more than anywhere else in the world. This poses serious problems for the key stakeholders - aspiring students as well as employers. Take aspiring students first. How do they choose the right business school? How are two schools different from each other? The task is not easy for companies either who hire from these business schools. It is not easy to screen each and every student thoroughly. In this scenario, the reputation of the business school becomes all important. This is a gap that the Business Standard survey plugs. The survey is open to business schools all over India. The eligibility criterion is that they should be approved by the All India Council for Technical Education or the government or a university.

best6

Also, at least two batches of students should have passed out of the institute. This is to assess the placements that happen at the campus. Questionnaires are sent out to the business schools. The responses are tabulated and double-checked by IMRB. Inflated claims and discrepancies are thus weeded out. As many as 50 of these business schools were visited by IMRB executives to verify the information they had submitted. This includes all those institutes that showed huge variation in scores between 2009 and 2010.

For the latest survey, questionnaires were sent to more than 1,500 business schools. Out of these, 255 sent their entries within the time limit.

PENNSYLVANYA

History
The University of Pennsylvania (commonly referred to as Penn) is a private research university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Penn is the fourth oldest institution of higher education in the United States, and is one of several institutions that claim to have been the first university in America. Penn is a member of the Ivy League and is one of the Colonial Colleges.

Benjamin Franklin, Penn's founder, advocated an educational program that focused as much on practical education for commerce and public service as on the classics and theology. Penn was one of the first academic institutions to follow a multidisciplinary model pioneered by several European universities, concentrating multiple 'faculties' into one institution. Penn is today one of the largest private universities in the nation.

Courses offered
Pennsylvania University offers a broad range of academic departments, an extensive research enterprise and a number of community outreach and public service programs.

Most well known for/Specialises in
Penn is particularly well known for its medical school, dental school, business school, law school, nursing school, veterinary school, social sciences and humanities programs and its biomedical teaching and research capabilities. Its undergraduate programs are also among the most selective in the United States.

Admission procedure/cycle (month/date)
The University has a wide range of academic programs. Details for their application processes are best sourced from the official website.

Scholarships offered
The cost of an undergraduate education today is a major investment for most families. Penn's goal is to make a Penn education affordable to students from all family income levels.

Admissions decisions are not affected by a student's ability to pay, or by filing a financial aid application. Like other Ivy League universities, Penn does not offer aid based on academic or athletic merit. Aid is based solely on financial need, and Penn is committed to meeting 100 per cent of a student's determined need. Penn stands out as one of the few universities that do not include loans in student's aid packages. Penn makes it possible to graduate debt-free.

Complete information on Penn's financial aid policy and programs, as well as long-term payment options is available on the university's official website.

King's professors played a major part in nineteenth-century science, and in extending higher education to women, working men and through evening classes.
The College has grown and developed through mergers with several institutions who have their own distinguished histories. These include the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, Chelsea College, Queen Elizabeth College, and the Institute of Psychiatry.

King's College London is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, learning and understanding in the service of society.

However, King's administers and provides an extensive range of funding opportunities throughout the year.

The King's India Institute, founded in 2008, provides a focal point for India-related activities across a range of academic disciplines. Promoting an understanding of India and developing the profile of Indian Studies at the university level in the UK, the Institute coordinates and develops India-related research capabilities and India-focused programs of study at King's, while also building links with Indian organizations in education, the cultural and creative sectors, business and government. Through these activities, and as part of the College's broader internationalization strategy, the Institute aims to contribute to a growing interdisciplinary interest in India among both students and academics at King's.

IRMA was established in 1979 at Anand, Gujarat with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat, erstwhile Indian Dairy Corporation and the National Dairy Development Board to provide management education, training, research and consultancy support to co-operatives and rural development organisations in India.
IRMA is founded with the belief, borne out by Dr.Kurien’s work in the dairy co-operatives which revolutionised the dairy industry in the country, that the key for effective rural development is professional management. Professionalising the management of rural organisations calls for matching the specific but unmet needs of the sector with the formal techniques and skills of management professionals. Linking the two are the ‘rural managers’ prepared by IRMA through its two-years diploma (PRM) in rural management.
